Ways to Obtain DMV Records in Texas
All drivers make a mistake from time to time. When this happens, the information is collected and reported on the driverís record. Thisis maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety. This organization creates a file of those instances and calls it a Motor Vehicle Record or MVR. It is important for individuals to obtain a copy of their MVR on a routine basis to ensure it is accurate. It is also beneficial to look over this file to ensure it is accurate for employment or insurance needs. There are several ways to obtain these records.
What Type of Driver Record Is Needed?
The Texas Department of Public Safety creates various versions of this file depending on who needs it and what information is to be included. Here's a look at some of them:
  • A Type 1 record provides information to verify the driver's license including license status, date of birth, and home address.
  • Type 2 is a three-year history that also includes all traffic accidents that received a ticket during that time as well as all non-moving and moving violations.
  • Type 2A provides a certification from the state that includes all that is included on a Type 2 record but also includes information to verify the driver's identity. This means this file can be used for most types of official documentation.
  • Type 3 will also include all crashes and violations over the previous three years.
  • Type 3A will include the same information on crashes and violations, as well as all traffic violations, but is certified. This means it can be used for official needs.
  • Type AR is the final option and is considered a complete abstract of the driver's history. That includes anything over the lifetime of your driver's history.
