Ways to Obtain Your DMV Record in North Dakota
In North Dakota, it is possible to obtain a copy of your driver's record through several methods. The North Dakota Department of Transportation provides access to a file, called a driver abstract that contains information about your past driving history including any violations you've had as well as the current status of your driver's license. It is important to obtain a copy of this document to verify its accuracy. Often, employers, insurance companies, and insurers will request a copy to verify the information you provide to them. To do this, follow one of these methods.

Obtain a Copy in Person

The fastest way to get a copy of a document is to visit the North Dakota NDDOT local office in your area. Most major cities in the state will have a department. It is possible to visit these locations for a certified or non-certified document. If you make this request in person, there is a $3 fee for the record. This fee is standard across all forms of access. It is payable by check, in cash (when in person) as well as with credit card and debit card transactions.

Obtain a Copy of Your North Dakota Driver Record Online

It is possible to obtain a copy of your driver's record online. You will need to visit the North Dakota Department of Transportation's website to do this. The site's Driver License Record Request System handles the process for you.
This allows users to receive a limited driving record. This means, it will include all information displayed to you, but it does not include some details including the total points, the violations you've had or the total convictions you had that are over three years old. It also does not include violations that are less than three points or any instances of suspensions, revocations, or cancellations that have been satisfied or are beyond three years old. To obtain a detailed request, you can visit the local NDDOT office to obtain a certified copy.
Also, note that you will need to print off the website. You cannot download this information or otherwise share it. The NDDOT does not send a printed document to you if you request it online.

Obtain a Copy of Your Driver Record by Mail

Another option is to request the document to be mailed to you. For this to occur, you will need to fill out a Request for Driver Abstract document. Follow the information on it, submit the fee, and mail it to the Driver License Division. The address is 608 East Boulevard Ave., Bismarck, ND 58505.
For those who need a certified or "complete" driver abstract, as the NDDOT calls it, there is only the option of visiting in person or requesting it by mail. Keep in mind that this may be the version that employers and insurers require. The online version is less verified and contains significantly less information. However, you can obtain an abstract in person the same day.
