DMV Records for Iowa Drivers
Would you like to take a look at your Iowa DMV record? Maybe you want to view a traffic ticket or check on your vehicle title. If you want to get your records, you can go through a record retrieval service or visit the Motor Vehicle Division of the (DOT) Iowa Department of Transportation. You have more than one option for getting records. Let's explore these options and give you additional information on the subject.

Why Should You Be Interested in Your Iowa DMV Records?

People view driving records for several reasons. For example, if you are applying for a job driving a commercial vehicle or company car, your potential boss wants to make sure your record is satisfactory, so he checks with the Iowa DOT.
Your auto insurance company checks on all their policyholders to make sure their driving habits are not risky, and if they are, they'll pay higher premiums. Insurers check official records when investigating claims or fraud.
Viewing your Iowa driving records can alert you to possible identity theft. If you see cars registered in your name that you do not own, or you were ticketed for a violation you did not do, you can take steps to help prevent a major disaster.

What's on My Record?

A certified Iowa driver report covers your driving activity for the past 60 months (5 years). It will show any traffic violations or convictions you had. It also shows if your driver's license is current or has been suspended within the past 5 years. If you were involved in a traffic accident and a report was made, this will also be in your report. DUI incidents are taken seriously by Iowa law enforcement, and a conviction remains on your driving record for 12 years.

Who Has Permission to See My Records?

Here are situations that may apply:
  • Court-related matters
  • Law enforcement issues
  • Government business
  • Insurance matters
  • Employee background checks
