Wyoming- How to Obtain Arrest Records
Individuals and agencies can apply for information to check your arrest records. Some require your consent and others have automatic approval.
You may apply through your state records or a private organization who have access to all records for a higher fee. You may not automatically be able to see another individualís record.
Records are often checked to find out more about neighbors, potential family members and friends you havenít seen for many years.

What Is on The Record?

Your personal data including any aliases, along with your address and date of birth will be provided to those authorized to inspect the record. Your photograph and fingerprints may be included.
Full details of any arrests and your detailed criminal record are available for inspection. Simple misdemeanor and felony convictions are included.
Dismissed and acquitted charges may be listed. The record will also show any current pending charges and warrants.
Wyoming State Records are available online direct from the State Department after paying a small fee. You should be careful not to sign up to receive the records regularly as you will be charged a monthly fee.
The state records are available from the United States State Records.
You may also obtain the record from The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), but where an arrest record is not submitted to the DCI, it will not be immediately available.
You may inspect the record personally by submitting an application with a fingerprint card and paying a nominal fee. Some records are available within 2 weeks, and others may take 5 to 6 weeks.
The same process will be used if you find that your own personal arrest record is incorrect and needs to be updated. Approval of changes is subject to accurate information.

Who will try to access the records?

You can access your own personal records. Government agencies do not need permission to access your records, but other agencies will, and you may need to provide your authorization.
For a potential future employer, especially where you may be working with children, you may be asked to provide access to your records.
Some government agencies will be allowed access to any expunged or pardoned records after you have met the necessary criteria. General agencies or individuals will not see this information.
After an arrest leads to a release without charges, the data may stay on your record. Through a qualifying lawyer, you may be able to apply for a Certificate of Actual Innocence and attach this information to your record.
You do not have to give consent for individuals to check your record on the sex offenderís registry as this is open to everyone.

Understanding the differences between background and arrest records

When requesting a background check, information about your current and previous addresses will be listed alongside your marital status, driving offenses lists and any bankruptcy applications.
Applications for your arrest and criminal record will detail all arrests, convictions, and penalties.
This record will also include your personal data; height, weight, hair and eye color, race and distinctive tattoos.
When you give permission for your records to be released, it is important to know which records you are giving authorizationfor access.
