Do You Need Help Finding Ohio Criminal Records?
Are you thinking about training or employment that involves extensive background checks? If so, it may be a good idea to check out your Ohio criminal history record beforehand. In fact, if you want to know what's on your record, you'll need to make an official request and follow specific rules. Here is information to help you with this search.

What Do Criminal Records Reveal?

A criminal history report may contain arrests in which the subject was fingerprinted. This usually includes felonies and some misdemeanors. Information like convictions, probation, sentencing, and court records can show up. If you were convicted of a DUI offense, it could be on your records too.

How Can I Get My Records?

In Ohio, you cannot simply go online and perform a search. In fact, there is no Internet access to a criminal records search engine. You cannot request an Ohio criminal record for someone else through the mail. The easiest way you can get a copy of your report is to go through a state-authorized WebCheck vendor.
WebCheck sends fingerprints and other information to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. You can find a location near your home by clicking this link.

Is There an Alternative to WebCheck?

You may not have to go through a WebCheck vendor if you want to request your own Ohio criminal records. The BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) does release a limited amount of information to people who request copies of their own records. These are not public records, and that's why you cannot request records for someone else. Here is what you need to do to receive your records:
  • You must include your full name, address, and any other identifying information.
  • Complete set of fingerprints
  • Signed consent
  • Fee of $22.00 - you can pay it by money order or business check, and electronic transfer is also accepted. Checks or money orders must be made out to the "Treasurer of State of Ohio."
There are four different locations that you can submit electronic fingerprints from. Locations are listed at this web page. When you go to submit your fingerprints, you will need to have a valid form of identification.
