New Hampshire Criminal Records
Do you need a background check on someone? Maybe you'd like to take a look at your own New Hampshire criminal records. The process is not as straightforward and easy as in many US states. Records are handled by the State Police division of the Department of Safety. Here is some important information to be aware of to help make the process a little easier.

What is a Criminal Background Check?

A criminal record may have information about felony arrests and convictions. It may also include things like plea bargains, indictments, or information on DUI convictions, assaults, theft, or a wide range of discrepancies.

What Records Can I Request in New Hampshire?

In some states, it's possible to request a criminal record search on anyone as long as you pay the requested fee. Arrest details are public information but not in the state of New Hampshire. To request criminal records, go to the Criminal Records Unit of the State Police. This is the only place that has complete criminal history information. They also maintain AFIS (automated fingerprint identification system). Arrest information stays on records for an indefinite amount of time, and it takes a special petition to remove it.
New Hampshire considers criminal records as confidential information. In fact, they do not release information about you unless you have authorized the request. You can request your criminal records report or one for someone else if they have given permission. In fact, in some cases, background checks are required by law for things like healthcare, employment, and professional licenses.
